History or background of award

This scholarship has been established by Lyna Samosir for the purpose of encouraging and financially supporting the successful pursuit of tertiary qualifications and educational leadership for wāhine Māori students, from Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island)

Purpose of award

The scholarship is offered to provide financial support for wāhine Māori students who grew up in Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island). The scholarship is focused on supporting students intending to undertake a Graduate Diploma of Teaching at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
