History and purpose

Founded by Jane Ferguson who in the year 1941 bequeathed a portion of her residuary estate to Victoria University of Wellington to be held in trust for the purpose of providing out of the income a scholarship on certain terms and conditions stated in her will.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist female orphans of academic merit to continue their studies when their financial or other circumstances would prevent them from doing so.
