Regulations and conditions
  1. Applications close 5 pm 20 June 2024 or once funding limits are reached, whichever comes first.
  2. Funding for this scholarship is capped. Applications will be considered in the order completed applications (as described above) are submitted, and numbers of scholarships awarded will be limited to funding.
  3. Completing an application does not guarantee you will be awarded a scholarship.
  4. Applicants must be current or recent public servants whose roles have been disestablished since 1 September 2023 or are proposed to be disestablished at the time of application for the scholarship. Where an applicant has ended their role in other circumstances relating to restructuring (for example voluntary redundancy) this will be considered. For the purposes of this scholarship, the term ‘public servant’ refers to those employed in core Public Service institutions, specifically the agencies referred to in section 10(a) and (b) of the Public Service Act 2020. These include departments, which usually have ‘ministry’ or ‘department’ in their name – such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Development, and Department of Conservation. As well as these, this definition of the Public Service also includes Crown Agents - organisations such as ACC, the Earthquake Commission, and Fire and Emergency New Zealand. This scholarship does not cover employees working in the wider public sector – including police officers, Defence personnel, and teachers.
  5. Applicants must be resident in the Wellington region. For the purposes of this scholarship, ‘Wellington region’ refers to the definition provided by the Greater Wellington Regional Council: this includes Wellington City, Lower Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt, Kapiti Coast, South Wairarapa, Carterton, Masterton, Tararua.
  6. Applicants are expected to hold undergraduate degrees for entry into postgraduate programmes. Some exceptions are outlined in degree regulation entry requirements.
  7. Successful applicants must also meet the University’s academic admission requirements. Specific programmes may have additional entry requirements.
  8. Scholarships apply to all programmes that the University has identified, and that have capacity in Trimester 2, 2024.
  9. Applicants must enrol to study at graduate or postgraduate degree level, either full or part time in one of the listed programmes. This includes postgraduate certificates and diplomas and Certificates of Proficiency.
  10. The scholarship covers tuition fees and the compulsory student service fees for up to two 15 or 20-point courses, or one 30-point course, or one 45-point course. These must be completed in Trimester 2, 2024.  The total value will depend on the courses completed.
  11. If applicants enrol in more than two 15 and/or 20-point courses in Trimester 2, the University will pay for the two most expensive courses. If applicants enrol in a 30-point or 45-point course and/or other courses only the most expensive single course will be funded.
  12. Students will need to cover the costs of textbooks or course materials and other course-related costs.
  13. This scholarship does not include funding for research-based courses.
  14. A student cannot hold another university-administered scholarship, which pays their fees, during the same period.
  15. The sections above headed Eligibility, Application process, Scholarship specific documentation, and Selection Process as well as this section are all deemed to form part of these Scholarship Regulations.
As admission and enrolment processing times cannot be guaranteed, it is highly recommended that you apply as early as possible to avoid potential delays.
