History or background of award

This scholarship was established in recognition of the long standing professional relationship between Professor Tony Angelo, of the Victoria University of Wellington Law Faculty, and the countries of the South Pacific. In particular his close involvement with the development of academic legal studies at the University of the South Pacific and the long standing commitment of the Victoria University of Wellington Law Faculty to the South Pacific.

Purpose of award

Applicants must be from the Pacific Islands with a first class academic record, who plans to undertake, or is currently undertaking, a Master's degree at the Victoria University of Wellington Law Faculty, either by thesis or coursework, or a Postgraduate Diploma. 

The scholarship may also be awarded to a third or fourth year student of the Victoria University of Wellington Law Faculty who wishes to enrol for a trimester at the Law Faculty of the University of the South Pacific.
