Wellington School Leaver Scholarships 2021

Applicants are encouraged to apply for a Wellington School Leaver Scholarship.  If successful you will be allocated one of the following scholarships
. You can only be awarded one.



Wellington Tangiwai Scholarship - School Leaver Scholarships for Excellence

Tangiwai Scholarships for study in 2021 will be awarded competitively on the basis of academic excellence. Scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 for the first year of study which can be put towards accommodation costs at a Victoria University of Wellington hall of residence, or (for students not in a hall) as a stipend to contribute towards your first year living costs.

Wellington Totoweka Scholarship - School Leaver Scholarships for Equity and Support

Totoweka Scholarships for study in 2021 will be awarded competitively on the basis of academic merit, equity, leadership, and commitment to community. Scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 for the first year of study which can be put towards accommodation costs at a Victoria University of Wellington hall of residence, or (for students not in a hall) as a stipend to contribute towards your first year living costs.

Wellington Kahotea Scholarship - School Leaver Scholarships for Outstanding Achievement

The Wellington Kahotea Scholarship recognises students who have achieved exceptional academic results or other high achievement within the areas of culture, community involvement, leadership or equity. The scholarship package includes full accommodation costs at a Victoria University of Wellington Hall of Residence in your first year, plus a stipend for three years.





Required Documents and References:

  • Your National Student Number (NSN) or equivalent codes for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and International Baccalaureate (IB).
  • Those applying for Totoweka and Kahotea are to submit a one-page personal statement explaining your reasons for wishing to attend Victoria University of Wellington, the academic goals you hope to achieve and why you believe you merit the scholarship. You should also include any leadership positions, details of your involvement in your school or community and outline your personal circumstances. Please include details relevant to all categories you are applying under.
  • Those applying solely for Tangiwai, do not need to provide a personal statement or reference.
  • Letter of reference, depending on the scholarship categories you are applying under. For those with International Baccalaureate qualification, your Indicative Score from your principal.




Depending upon the categories you fall under, the following additional documents, information and references will be required.

Maori and/or Pasifika:

  • Endorsement of your ethnicity
Socio-economically Disadvantaged:
  • Statement of earnings from parents and/or caregivers who provide you with financial support or statement if you are self-supporting.
Disability:
  • A letter from your GP or other health professional
Refugee background:
  • Evidence of your refugee status
